Can anyone help me name this very pretty shrub found on one of our very over grown allotment plots. It is about 3ft tall compact and not very spreading; has these very pretty pink/purple flowers and the leaves are tinged with purple to.

Hi Beryl,
It looks like Leycesteria formosa, common name pheasant berry as they love the fruit. May have been how the allotment acquired it!

Thank you all for your quick response. I am sure that is the one. I don't know if the stems are hollow OH but your link Alan with the photo I think confirms it.
Now the big decision is who is going to be allowed to dig it up and keep it. Maybe we can some cuttings and all share it.

It grows very successfully from seeds, or you can take softwood cuttings.

Yes Leycestria is a very nice easy shrub even the green stems look nice in winter. Lots of other birds like the berries too. They taste quite sweet. It grows very readily from cuttings so you should be able to share it out.
