I had this problem but my instruction manual gave an alternative blocking code, if one doesn't work the other will. (They say)

Last night I had three calls between six and eight, I could see the numbers on the call-list but the blocker had stopped them.

When I'm up at the kitchen garden I leave the phone someplace in the middle of where I'll be and I would often have filthy hands with soil on when the phone rang. I might have to walk briskly for fifty yards which can be painful for me only to find someone wants to talk about life insurance or investment guidance.

None of that now, just the odd new one and it brings a sparkle to these old eyes that I can stop them.

Having an answer phone is a great deterrent too.

Yes, the answerphone fields and stops most unwelcome callers but the phone still rings and wakes me up or diverts me from what I'm doing because it may be an important call. With a blocker the call doesn't get any further than the caller-recognition software.

Some friends have taken to never answering the phone because they turn the ringer off, some got so fed up with the answerphone filling up with crap they also cut the answerphone.

This all means the bxggers are making the simple-humble telephone something to be feared. (Slight exaggeration)

A telephone call for some people is something to look forward too, family or friends saying hello or family and friends asking for help. Now after subscribing to a particular charity in the doorway of M&S we end up with endless charitable causes calling us for donations.

Sorry, I know, it isn't gardening though it is something we all share like dogs and cats and cooking.

I may get French beans in September, just in time for Beti to get a taste for them. :D

I don't use my land line at all now, unplugged the phone, as just got sick & tired of the cold calls. Unfortunately I still have to pay for the privilege of having the line though to get my cable connection which is a rip off as well.

I only give my mobile number to close friends or important companies or businesses I have used before & always check the number before answering. There are a few that get through but much less than with the land line. I usually scan the numbers about once a fortnight & block the dodgy ones on the mobile after I check the internet to see who they might be. I am on Nuisance 13 of blocked calls so not too bad for about a year when I would get that many a day.

Can you explain this for me Westi ? I am aware that mobiles now have call blocking though I hadn't realized it was as bad for mobiles.

My mobile never gets used unless I'm traveling, I never give the number to anyone because we don't have a signal and because of the rare use which explains why I don't get cold calls on my mobile. I'm certain that all Internet traders sell their lists of phone numbers.

In future if I can't do an Internet purchase without giving phone numbers I won't buy.

Peoples lottery are now calling me most nights after 7. They don't get through but they try again.

When I get an unknown number I search it on the Internet & if it is a nuisance selling company I block it. To block it you have to make it a contact first in your phone numbers, so I call mine Nusiance 1, 2 3 etc. Once you have it in your contact list if you scroll down to the bottom it gives you the option to block the call.

Once blocked nothing comes up on your phone at all - until the gits sell the number to someone else of course!

Of-course, I'm just realising the enormity of the market for lists of e-mail and phone numbers. We have five e-mail addresses that have proven that you can't trust anyone with your information.

One of our addresses is used solely for her private, banking and other business uses. You might assume that address wouldn't have much spam but it has lot's. The spam coming in on this address proves that banks and other professionals sell your information and not just to other professionals. This e-mail just came in as I type.

Hello. I need a man, who wants to build future and life together with love and passion. Are you tender and serious man? I would be happy to get know each other better.
I'm a attractive and young lady. Friends know me as cheerful person, who is always ready to listen and to support. My Profiles:04303192. http://jthbbhna.apuru.com I am hopeless dreamer and I live by soul, I like to be natural.
I waited for you very long and maybe we will find love. Regards, Janina.

Another address that I created specifically for the purpose of dumping and only used a few times, it is now five years since it was used but gets daily inputs from a Russian medications vendor.

Another address I have proves that some businesses do not sell your details though time will tell.

Recently I did a few online transactions by paying over the phone until my partner pointed out that this method adds more risks than the problems of spam, amazing how pixxed-off the traders get when you won't give them an e-mail address or telephone number.

What would I do without the internet though, particularly living this far west.

Awe Richard - are you not the man then??

I had a lot more trouble with on line stuff with my previous security but when I was hacked the nice anoraks at the computer shop recommended Bull Guard and it seems a lot more effective. Especially useful on Face Book as it identifies good sites with a nice tick & puts a red cross against those not to open & if a real baddie comes up anywhere including my e-mail, you get a pop up you just can't ignore, & it starts to get rid of it regardless in a specific time frame of about 2 minutes.

Erm........Well.......Yes. I am, but, that stuff would scare me to pooping my pants. Consider this, I had a mother and two sisters. Then I had a wife and three daughters before settling down with my best-ever friend who is also a lady.

I think they all went to assertive school.

Have you ever worked with or been in the company of people where everyone is being assertive ?

I'm happy to be in control of me though I will assert myself occasionally. Beti arrives tomorrow, she'll need a leader.

Some of you who seem to be subject to this may be interested in this.

Page 4 of todays Daily Mail has a article about changes in the law to prevent organisations making calls without displaying their number and hiding as 'unknown'

The danger when people start to believe their own publicity is that they often fall off their own ego.

At least travelling under the guise of the Pa Snip Enterprise gives me an excuse for appearing to be on another planet

Any change for the better is a positive move though this one sounds toothless, as-usual.

Most callers I get that are uninvited marketing of one sort or another do display their number, they are persistent which suggests automated calling.

Peoples Lottery for example call every day, the call gets blocked but they persist in calling. Today's call hasn't arrived yet though most calls are out of what we call working hours which suggests a spare time caller or maybe they choose those times because we are likely to be home. Recently People's Lottery are using the same number 01414130233.

You can't phone to complain because everything is automated.
