Hi there
I have been reading about corn on here, & found a thread that had a couple of negative coments from growers who tried Mini pop last year.
Yesterday my bargain packet of different seed arrived from a KG offer earlier in the spring ... and with them is mini pop. It does seem a shame to ditch the seed, & I do really enjoy mini corn.
So is it worth me trying it? If so what are the best practices in acheiving a decent crop?
I read in my book this morning to plant out 6" apart. Any other advice - I've never actually grown any type of corn before.
Thankyou

Grow it. Its fab!! I grow mine down the middle of a raised bed, 6" apart and pick baby cobs all summer, although this year I'm growing them in a block in a longer bed. They hardly ever make it home, as I strip them and eat them on the spot. I've already planted out my first lot (sown mid April) and will start another batch any time soon. The books tend to say you still only get 1-2 cobs per plant, but I've had up to 6 from one plant, although they do get smaller and skinnier with time. I don't do anything special to them, the usual bed prep with added compost, water when essential and thats about it. I have read that it pays to cut off the male flowers as they form to stop the cobs being germinated, but as there is plenty of pollen in the air I'm not sure its worth the trouble. Just remember to pick your cobs as the silks form, not when they go brown - this is too late. Good luck and enjoy!
