My partner doesn't drink as a reaction to a few unpleasant experiences as a younger woman, I'm a regular drinker though only evenings and mostly with food. Don't do pubs and social-drinking but she often stares at me if I get close to halfway down the bottle.

Halfways down starts to taste better doesn't it ?

Think of the money you're saving.
How are you supposed to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle if it completely removes a wine lover’s reason to live?

Himself thinks it's great as he always has a driver....

Does take off any pressure to 'go on just one, it won't hurt' sort of talk when you just say 'I'm driving' 'cos if you say 'I'll throw up' they tend to stop.

Me and my husband share the drinking and riving. He drinks, I drive. My choice, as I find alcohol in quantity just does not agree with me...the older I get, the worse it gets. I get sick long before I get drunk!

It always amazes me how folks try to persuade me to have "just one" when I say I'm driving.

It also amazes me that folks think I need to have alcohol to be able to enjoy myself....I don't!
We went to a family get together last weekend and I chose to drive us there because; a) it's a £20 round trip to their house by taxi. (b) I like to be able to get up and go rather, than hang about for a pre-booked taxi (which is 30 minutes late) if.... the going gets tough.

Fortunately it was lovely and I really enjoyed myself, we finally left at 3am. Sister-in-law said how sorry she was that I "couldn't have a drink", when I told her I had had a great time...she has known me for 13 years yet she still does not understand.

Brilliant point to raise Elaine, I dont enjoy having a drink with people who need a drink so they can talk a lot of b@@@@xx or even smile. I have a drink for the pleasure of certain beers and wines, some people just drink for the effect alcohol has on them and whilst that to some extent of benefit to me it's for an entirely different reason.

By 3 or 4 in the afternoon I'm sore and hurting but I'm still buzzing in my head. I tidy up, start to prepare my evening meal and have a soporific glass of beer.

Richard, you're spot on there, for some folks, if they don't get bladdered and feel rough next morning, they haven't had a good night.
