Try as I may my Spring Onions never do well. They are always very short with skinny green foliage, then they bulb. They get watered well as are in the salad bed so what am I doing wrong?

Is the soil too light do you think?. I tend to think spring onions are rsther like miniature leeks smd probsbly like a similar soil with plenty of nutrient snd hummus in it. I gave up growing them years ago when somebody gave me some perpetual Welch bunching onions and now rely on them for my salad onions instead. Perhaps they would benefit from a change of location?

What variety/ies do you grow? If they are White Lisbon type (Allium cepa) you may better off using Allium fistulosum cultivars.

I won't repeat what I said here

I hope this helps.

Hi Primrose

My soil is very light and sandy. I give a light feed but the soil isn't that great. I save my well improved beds for the heavy feeders but actually thinking about it I could try intercropping.

Hi Alan

I always sow direct outside. Haven't thought about module sowing them at all to be honest. Thanks a lot for the advise.
