Who writes a blog?

I need some help. I'm wanting to start a blog but I don't really know where to start. I've had a quick look at which blog site to use but there are so many. I think http://website.1and1.co.uk/website-templates look easy to use but still could do with a few tips. So if any of you who have their own blogs could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.

try blogspot.com or blogger.com, there are lots of blog templates out there
I have one for my soap business, but I am so busy, I rarely add to it, I don't think I've been on there for nealry 6 months, probably longer!

Call me a grumpy old old git (no, please don't) but I'm not quite sure what a "blog" is. A bit like Facebook or Twitter when someone posts "I'm on the train, just seen an awesome [something-or-other]..."? Erm, who cares? Is anyone interested?
But one thing's for sure, it is really important to keep a diary of everything you do in the garden or down the allotment. Sowing dates, varieties, position, performance, weather conditions, soil conditions, maintenance tasks, results and where veg is concerned keep a note of the weight of crops harvested.
Is this a blog? When did I put those parsnip seeds in? Did the second sowing do better than the first row? Was it later than last year, should I do it earlier next year? All these questions can be answered by your diaries/blogs. It might seem a palaver but we learn a lot from our notes.
And then when someone asks when did you put your carrot seed in you don't have to say "don't know but it was the same day as I put the pea seeds in", you can actually say hang on I'll look it up - yeah, 4th May (same day as I put the pea seeds in)!

Best description of a blog is;
It's an electronic diary you write on a website on the internet amd anyone in the world can read it.
How often you post and what you post, text or pictures or video is up to you. As with anything on the internet, just bear in mind Harry Lightfingers might view the nice new thingy in that poorly secured shed and devide to pay a late night visit.

Do not put off thanking people when they have helped you, as they may not be there to thank later.
