I have a James Grieve double cordon apple which I've just summer-pruned. I was aware that two or three full-sized apples had either fallen to the ground or been knocked by bird or animal, and then been consumed. Today I tested them by gently lifting the fruit and all of them came off very easily. This is probably five or six weeks earlier than I would have expected. The fruit isn't quite ready on my two other cordon apples - a Queen Cox and an 'Anonymous' - was wrongly labelled as a pear when delivered, but looks very similar to the James Grieve - but I don't think these two will be much longer.

Evening Ken, on the farming progrmme on the radio this morning, an apple grower was saying his apples are four weeks earlier than last year.
Mine are a little earlier, but they are not very big.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

I'm picking my Rev. Wilks now, the larger ones are coming away easily in my hand and they must be at least a month early too. I don't think I have ever had my entire onion crop dried and ready for storing this early either. Funny 'ole season again.

Beryl.
