That story made me cross.
Meat come from animals, the shielding of children from that is pathetic and dishonest.
Further disnification of life.

Other countries and cultures would be amazed at such pickiness. As for the animal rights attitude, when they can persuade a lion to be a vegan....

Be honest about where our food comes from and do the meat animal the justice of a "quick clean death" and use all of it, not just the lean meat bits.

I always thought the sight of dead pheasants and rabbits enhanced the atmosphere of our local butchers when I was younger and it's a shame you no longer see them. Our food is so sanitised these days. Environmental Health police I suppose, although I don't imagine there would be many people around who would have a clue about how to pluck a pheasant or skin a rabbit if they had to, myself included sadly!

Our butcher hangs his birds & bunnies outside & that is what attracted us to use him in the first place & we've never been disappointed! The quality of his meat is superior to anything for miles around - always hung well, not plastic wrap in sight, in fact doesn't even have a slicer doing everything with his knife, including bacon slices! I suppose he is a bit dearer but everything is trimmed perfectly so you only get what can 100% be consumed so actually probably the same price in the end.

I use a proper butcher too, a little corner shop. They sometimes run out of space in the cold store before Christmas so have to hang sides of beef along the inside shop wall. I was in there a couple of Christmas' ago and a young woman ran screaming past the shop window shouting 'they shouldn't be allowed.....' probably on her way to MacDonalds...

They have a metal bar grid above the shop door to keep it cold. And not a bit of cling wrap in side.

I can deal with game birds, rabbits and even deer carcasses. I mostly taught myself, some advice came from my Gran when I was younger as she had been a scullery maid and had to deal with the game sent up to London from the country house. I find it a useful skill to have.

Many years ago we used to have a lovely shop in Colne called Scotts who had a fabulous place where you could buy any amount of game etc depending on the time of the year, you would see them hung outside and inside there were oodles of fresh veg. It has long gone, instead you have to go to Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons and Tesco for fresh!! veggies and you never see rabbit or game hung anywhere these days.

I use a butcher in Foulridge where the meat is second to non. David Ingham and Son has been there for many years. (I moved there in 1980 and he was there then) He is so very busy that some days they are queuing out of the door. Says everything.

ive been in spain for the last 3 weeks, last week a car came through the village with a dead wild boar tied to the roof all part of the Spanish life no body was seen complaining in fact they where all hoping for a share of it
