Evening Codger, i'm afraid to say you are a little mistaken, while you were entertaining the homehelp, i was busy digging. I finished just as it got dark, but you would know that, as you were escorting the young lady to her car, as i was exiting the allotment gates

Evening Geoff, i don't know how big a job your sheeting up is, but i was wondering if you could uncover it on a windy or sunny day, then cover it back over again!

We'll OH I think my job of entertaining was a lot more exciting than your hard work digging ,never mind I will be over there doing my bit of digging tomorrow weather permitting.

It is possible OH but it is a bit of a pain moving the breeze blocks, paving slabs and lumps of wood that I use to weigh it down. Didn't realise I had the camera at such a strange angle! It hailed then snowed just after I took it.

I didn't manage any digging, but I did barrow some manure form the community heap onto my rhubarb & strawberry patches. the heap was a bit squishy, and in some places quite revolting, but the sun was out, and it wasn't too bad.
How do you manage on a slope like that Geoff!!!

I'm confused now.
To me what you have described is the antithesis of "well-rotted".
Does it not matter for rhubarb and strawberries?

It is well rotted, I dug around underneath, where it was all black and very squishy from all the rain!
