Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

I can't believe how slow i have been, just realised what Clives previous posts were about, now i know i'm losing it.

Apologies for being a bit cryptic in my earlier post...I did realise this morning and added Radio 4.
I was just checking who was listening.

It was recorded in the Gardens on the afternoon of 25th Nov with the full programme recorded in the Coronation Hall at Wainfleet that evening. Sam, Tash and I went along with our House and Visitor Service Managers.

I enjoyed the recording in Wainfleet but was dreading our bit coming out as despite planning it out it did seem to change a bit on the hoof and also, as ever, time was tight.

The producer wanted to do a bit on the mossiest ever lawn that he was walking across. ...I declined his invitation to talk on that...

There was a funny bit that did not make it to air... Tash was asked as a newcomer to the team, no doubt with new ideas, what was on her Christmas wish list from Clive...??. She quickly replied that Christmas has come already as Clive has bought us some long handled leaf grabs so that we don't have to bend to the floor using bits of old plywood leaf boards anymore. I retorted that, you make me sound some sort of tyrant making you bend to the floor.!.. The reply to this...not at all he's a teddybear.!!
Of course there might be a Christmas edition. ...and we did have to sign our words over to the Beeb. .

It was a whole lot scarier to take part in than the local radio and tv that I had been involved with previously. In the case of the local radio the presenters involved then knew the garden fairly well previously.

I seem to think I posted the Durondeau blossom up on here..didn't I.?? That was quite genuine that I had seen it flower many times but had never inspected it close too...so it was suddenly something to say..

Evening Clive, well i think you all came across very well, and it was nice to put a voice to a name.

One more thing, i thought something had been missing from the forum for a while, and now i know what it is, one of your wonderfully written replies, they always make me smile.

Of course, i will be bringing my lawn moss gauge up when i come to visit Gunby Hall. Better bring the biigest one up.

What a beautiful sunny day here
I am enjoying a week off work to try and get Christmas sorted! before the mayhem begins when I go back.
You ask at the beginning of this thread about which is our favourite season, I think mine has to be spring,I still stand in awe of a tiny seed that with a little care and right conditions will grow and produce something we can all share around the table.

Dear Donedigging, you certainly seem to have picked the right week, weather wise, as it looks fair all week.

I love your wording about why you love Spring so much, you have just gone up another couple of notches on my like board.

The sun did get out eventualy, here, but it was quite dark and damp first thing. But still managed to get a lot done for one of my customers. She was the first customer i started for, when i started gardening for a career.

I know it's not supposed to be a good sign but a lovely coloured sky this morning and definitely not Early Winter temperature, must get out there.

Great day yesterday sunny for most part and the prospect of the same today, hard at it biulding raised beds and filling them, biulding small walls out of turf that had been dumped outside our allotments by the council then cover them in black polythene , next year they will make some nice top soil like last years is doing , tomorrow im off fishing a day out on the mersey on our boat chasing cod , I do like retirement

I am mega busy this time of year with my hobby (second job) I am spending every spare moment at the weekends and evenings either at a craft fair (in the cold, thank goodness for snow trousers) or making product for the craft fairs - I make handmade soaps and candles and associated nonsense. So, although I do enjoy doing them, I am usually completely fried by this time of year, added to the VAT return that I have to do at my real job, I can't wait for it to be January! I did manage to cut the lawn and plant some crocus bulbs under the big tree in my garden (silver birch) on Saturday, and Sunday at the allotment I dug up the chrysanths and planted them in the greenhouse bed for the winter.

Dear Retropants, you sound like me, as in, there are never enough hours in the day. I can't ever remember saying, "i'm bored" in my entire life, but i wouldn't have it any other way.

Hope you have some good sales at the craft shows.
