Saw a beautiful shiny, metallic green beetle yesterday, about the size of a shield bug - but much more attractive. It looked like it should have been a brooch. Does anyone know the name of it and is it a good beetle or a bad beetle?

Diane, it's most likely one of the ground beetles. The violet ground beetle is probably the most common one (it's a goodie, living of other pests, particularly slugs), but your green one is probably Galeruca tanaceti. I don't know an English name for it and, I am afraid, don't know what it eats. Try googling it, it will give you more info.

Possibly the Mint Beetle. Have a look on this site to see if you can spot it:

Thank you all - looked on the uk safari site and I think it was a rose chafer. I must try to find it again and have another look.
