Sowing and planting, Bits And Bobs.

Took the fleece off my Sweet Peas today, ringed them to the canes, weeded and gave them a liquid feed. Then I put the fleece back, don't usually have to do that.
Runner Beans still cosy in the greenhouse, sown 1st May. Building the framework this evening if the showers hold off.
Covered all sorts of stuff last night but I don't think it quite managed a ground frost in the end although the tunnel went down to 4.5°C, the lowest for a while. Looks a bit warmer the next few nights.

No frost here but runners (at home, not lottie) well protected are not happy...Oh well! Another weird year coming up maybe?

It's a challenge but we will learn something I'm sure & by sharing it will get through these challenges until we get a decent ruddy proper season!!

Bit disappointed with 1¼ lbs of Rocket from root planted in tunnel on 22nd February - but they were very nice!

I was reading not writing OH! It will pick up again when we finish planting & sowing I'm sure - maybe it was that thing on the tele with that round ball scooting around being chased by all those blokes?

Following on from Geoff's harvesting of his rocket, I have to report that I am now cropping generous pickings from the punnet of Living Salad I bought from Lidyl a short while back for £1. The instruction is that you put the punnet on your windowsill and clip off small quantities now and then. Well, I went one better and planted them all out in a border under cloches and they have really thrived. (And have been very useful as my successional sowings are far too tiny to pick.) So much so that I was passing a Lidyl today and popped in to buy another couple of £1 punnets today to keep supplies going..

That's the one the pigeons like on my plot Primrose! They are so very tender it is a gift to them I feel! They have only attacked the one spaced out not the ones I planted together for cut & come!

I've got various lettuces and salad leaf in abundance at the moment - just need the weather to truly appreciate it all

Potted on more beans today and repotted the Kohl Rabi which are beginning to swell.

My parsnips are finally through, well some of them are, and broad beans are starting to form.

Looks as if we are in for a spell of nice weather for a few days at least, that will make things move a little.

Supposed to be good down here too but I'm looking out the window at a very large and dark gray cloud, think I'd better walk the dogs before that comes over.

Beautiful sunny morning. Glad I got out for a satisfying early morning hoe (now I've written that I'm wondering if there's an obscure slang meaning!). Chickweed seedlings everywhere after last year's wet.

And the cloud passed over and the sun came out. Had a good morning up the plot, planted the middle batch of climbing beans out, sowed the third batch of peas (Hurst Greenshaft), the next batch will be Karina and then one I haven't tried before called Avola, and some chard. A very sad looking row (or not!) of spring onions will have to be a re-sow job I think.

Will have to get up there again and deal with the seedling weeds that are exploding all over the place since the rain.
