Aniversary Present

Every year I make the other half something for our aniversary. This time I made her these gardening tools. They are made from 14 gauge bronze or CZ 102 plate bronze.

One is a weeder 450.00mm overall, the other a trowel, the handles are made from an old wind blown apple tree from a freinds orchard.

Total cost of materials was 30 quid and 6 hours work.

All joints are silver soldered for strength and durabitity.

Both have a weight of 8 and 9 ounces.

Bronze is extremely ductile, much stronger than the thinner steel plate cheap Chinese made wares, I have had several stainless models, all of which broke on me.

Its the anti slug inhibitors that copper/bronze has that helps detter slugs, try placing a live slug on something made of copper and see what happens. In normal use tiny amounts are left in the soil where you have disturbed it whilst planting on Etc.

In time this copper builds up and helps to build a barrier towards slugs, much better than buying slug pellets, which are Detrimental to nature, esecially young birds which the mother will collect and feed them to her chicks if given the chance.

I have had their garden spade on my wish list for a couple of years now, it is scumptious in every way.
