I've found that the main water tank stays liquid, but the little trough at the bottom that the water feeds into, still freezes up.

Please DO NOT put glycerine into birdbaths or add to birdseed/food for garden birds as it is harmful, making birds ill and even fatal, and it stops their feathers being waterproof.
