Lovely and bright outside but very, very cold! Going to go clear out the last of the winter veg and dig the beds over. Have a few onion sets left over which I may chuck in to see if they do anything (I don't like wasting seed etc) :D

Just been to the allotment for the first time in a month. We've both been sick with NoroVirus and then horrible cough/colds, right through Christmas, so it was great to get outside in the sunshine for a change. Blowing a freezing cold gale, but it's done us the world of good. Rain forcast again tomorrow... :roll:

Sore leg today, so despite breezy sunshine I'm pottering & cooking indoors today.

Soreness comes from yesterdays fifteen mile walk with my dogs, crosscountry to visit a friend. Very strong winds on the way there, which eased off while we were walking through his village. We had a ten minute absolute deluge on th way back and fifteen minutes later I got my left foot caught in a rooted bramble trail and went splat full length in the mud.
In the process I sprained something at the top of my left calf.
Do not put off thanking people when they have helped you, as they may not be there to thank later.

Trying to stay away from that virus...had a dose of it back in 2009, not nice at all...had me only able to sip water for a week...

Still bright and sunny here...wind picking up. Made some more digging progress and finished the corner up to the compost heap. :)

Now working on the North side of the path...quite sandy that side as it took a lot of the sand from the house footings back in 1950s. Need to move some Tamella Strawberries to form a nursery bed there and thus free up the area, where the Pea sticks need tidying from too, in the photo to continue digging. :)

Stuffed Chine and chips now for lunch

Away for the weekend at Sussex seaside. Have a heavy cold but sun shining so had a walk by the sea which has blown the cobwebs away. Lots of people out walking. After several days of heavy rain I think everybody is suffering from cabin fever (plus over eating) and is glad to get some fresh air! It's ago od thing Christmas only comes once a year. I don't think my system could sta Nd any repeat performances!

There is an upside to being ill through Christmas, it's the first year ever that I've not had a single alcoholic drink for over three weeks and have managed to lose half a stone! The downside is there is an awful lot of food and alcohol in this house.

Dug a whole load of leeks this morning that I'm about to convert into leek and potato soup. I love that stuff, I could eat it all day every day and have enough leeks in the kitchen to do just that for about a fortnight. :D

Last of the leeks and parsnips have been dug up, washed, cooked and eaten with todays' roast dinner.

Also tipped the last of the tubs of Christmas tatties out onto one of the beds and my 8 year old and I had fun raking through the compost with our hands to find every little (and large) potato. Will make a nice potato salad to go with the side of ham I'm cooking up for tomorrows tea :shock:

Spread chicken manure pellets over the newly vacated beds and sowed some broad beans and a half dozen left over onion sets (yes I know they're a tad late but with the weather all over the place we may be lucky), into 2 of the others :)

Nice to have all the beds done now but sad to see them standing empty. Rain has now come and watered in my newly sowed and planted veggies nicely :D

I seem to have beaten the forecast rains. :) ...mighty windy here at the moment.
The Strawberry ground of the last two years is now turned over and that's all the bottom half of the garden dug...the very far end is home to 2 rows of Parsnips, a few short rows of Leeks at the other end and the new down sized Strawberry bed in the middle.
Next could be the bit on the House side of the Raspberries and Loganberries.

There's more to do this time as there's no greens area. :(

So just the half near the house to sort...might leave that 'til next year. :wink:
