Hi John,
The Minicole F1 incident was certainly a couple of reincarnations back but I do remember it quite well simply because I had never experienced anything like it myself.
Sadly every time this forum has been updated the staff who perform the operation are not qualified gardeners and simply do not understand the importance of many many first class contributions and they are given a job to do and that is as far as it goes. A great pity but this is "progress" UK fashion of today. One step forward and two backward! :wink:

I grew Greyhound for a couple of years, and like yours, they grew really well, but the flavour was a let-down, and they were very 'watery', if that makes sense. I tend to grow Hispi now. The flavour seems ok, although they are a much smaller cabbage. I'm trying Winnigstadt this year also. I do wonder if the soil they're grown in can make a difference?

Hi Donedigging,
I do hope that the taste of the Greyhound has improved but somehow have my doubts.
I do not know about you but I have enjoyed this thread above all that I have read on the forum this year and I only wish that there were more like it. Good input from so many people with good solid ideas and that is what this forum was formed to be, an exchange of ideas between interested gardeners.
I vote this the best thread so far this year.
How do you say?

Hi JB

It must certainly be in the running for Gold :)

The main pointed cabbage I grow is Précoce de Louviers. Often listed as a spring cabbage, it will do well at all times of the year. I usually sow in early September for hearting up in the polytunnel in spring, then another sowing very early March for summer cabbage. And the taste is as sweet and green as you could wish.

I must admitt Johnboy, having been on holiday for a while, anything that was harvested before I left was blanched and frozen. Since I have been back, well I wouldn't call it cabbage weather :wink:
I have also enjoyed this thread aswell and have been able to note several other recommendations to try
A big thank you to you all for your inputs
More gardening less politics :)

To anyone trying a new type of pointed cabbage this year
Once they have been harvested , please feel free to add any comments on their taste, how well they grew and whether you would grow them again
Just thought it would round this thread off..

A quick update,
All the grey hounds tasted the same :(
I think though I have found the source.......the soil
As I drive down the length of the allotments the smell gets stronger and while working and clearing much of mine at the weekend, the smell was the same.
Soil looks clean as it was cleared last year from being a bramble hedge, but will test the soil tomorrow just to see what the PH is.
Everything else has tasted "normal"

Has anyone tried Duncan F1 from Marshals? I was given a packet many years ago to try. The results were very good, a quick growing sweet crisp cabbage. It is the only cabbage I have used since.
