I was working down the other end of the village this morning, just one paddock along from my Mums. I had been working for about an hour at the front of the farm house, when i saw a tractor and large corn trailer going round the corner pass my Mums house. But as soon as it was out of sight i heard a terrible rumbling noise, followed by this huge bang. I thought he had run into the back of a car. So i ran round the corner and was met by the most scary sight i think i have come across in my life.
To my horror the trailer was off the tractor, and had taken all the front fence down and was laying on it's side right next to my Mums little stall.
As it had gone over, the ten ton of Barley had completly buried the stall and burst her gates open. When i saw this, i had this sickening feeling that my Mum could well be under there, as i had heard her calling out to someone only a couple of minutes earlier.
But amazingly she had just gone back in, about 20 seconds earlier.
What a relief when i saw her standing there on her garde path, and i won't even attempt to put into words the sheer relief that i felt.

So at the end of the day, no one was hurt, and although Mum lost everything on her stall, it can be all replaced.

The poor blokes that had to clear it all up have had the most awful job, as it had gone such a distance, all through the hedge, in the shrubs and borders and also up the gravel drive.

We should get a fair crop of barley i reckon. :)

I've been busy this afternoon and knocked up a new table, and a couple of stands, so her little stall will be open tomorrow as normal. :)
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Thank heavens she's alright and no real damage done.

Council contractors roadsweeper rolled back ito someone's house here last week. Driver went for a wee and can't have put the handbrake on, porch demolished and house had to be propped up before vehicle was removed. Occupant of property was housebound. :?

Phew, good to hear that miracles still happen, someone up there must have been looking out for your mum. She is fortunate to have such a caring son.too :D

It must still have been a tremendous shock to your mother, OH, seeing her stall destroyed and realising her lucky escape. Best wishes to her!

Dear OH

Glad nothing serious happened to your mum. I reckon you're right about about next summer's barley crop. When you come to think of it, the real miracle would have been if the trailer had not come of and nothing had happened.

OH I've just seen your posting, I am very glad your mum is safe but I expect shocked someone up above was looking after her, as you said the stall can be replaced but your MUM couldn't.

What a lucky escape for your mother. . I can imagine how you must have felt when you saw what had happened.

That must have been such a shock for you!!

I hope it hasn't shaken you or your Mum up too much with a case of the "what if's".

And well done to you for getting your Mum's stall back up and running a.s.a.p. Get your Mum back on the horse before she has too much time to think about it.

Also, the tractor driver will probably be much more careful around there in future!

Good news to hear everyone was ok.

Just a quick update. When i was working in my Mums garden Thursday afternoon, there were at least five people that popped in to see how she was. Then these two lovely old ladies got chatting to my Mum, the only problem being was, they kept going over and over how bad things could have been, and i could see Mum was getting a little down.
So i thought i would lighten things a little, i walked up to the three of them and said, "Mrs Gibson, would you think badly of me if i stopped for a drink of water now, as i haven't stopped for seven hours."
The shocked look on all there faces as i quickly walked off, and it certainly changed the subject, to all their amusement. :)

So, my Mum has moved on well and all is just about back to normal, so thank you all again for your kind words.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.
