Just been down to the greenhouse and found that blight has today set in to the Shirley Tomatoes. 
I have carefully removed the affected leaf sections in hope... Never had to do that before in all our years of Tomato growing in this greenhouse...built by Dad in 1969.
Potato tops in the garden here are already cut off with the fastest developing blight I have ever seen.

I had to do the same today Clive only mine were Ferline outside. Looks like they will go the same way as the potatoes although I have managed to save those. Not much else one can do about tomatoes is?

this year I erected a roof over the tomatoes to keep the rain off leaving sides open to allow free air circulation - so far touch wood they look really healthy, picking the greenhouse ones now outside fruits forming but still green - rain most days and very little sun here

My Runner Beans have been sulking for several weeks and simply refusing to grow so in desperation I gave them a double strength of Chempak 8 and in just a week they have hit the 9ft mark!
I think that this is all my own fault because I should have dug in some compost when I prepared the bed in March. Today they have had a mulch of Comfrey Compost and if the weather improves as the weatherman says next week they will be smothered in flower. I can see many flower spikes that have formed so far on the lower parts of the plants and much lower than normal. They should be in full flow by September which is almost six weeks behind. What an awful year this has been!
The snag with September is that we normally get our first frosts around the same time. Thinking of a Polythene cloak for frost protection.
I made a cloak a few years ago and ended up picking beans until the first week of December and just so long as they do not have a direct frost on the plants they are surprisingly hardy.

Rain to finish the day again today,
Picked some Early Onward Peas, Beetroot, Courgettes and Marrows. Then we set about the dead heading of more of the Pemberton Musk Roses and had earlier trimmed the Garden/Church boundary Loncicera hedge.
Not so many visitors today given a poor forecast, although whilst it did rain late afternoon we escaped the advertised thundery showers.
I enjoyed a long chat with a couple who had visited us from Suffolk as a direct result of reading last years KG article. Keen KG magazine readers, they reported that the garden was just as mentioned in the magazine... In fact their visit is exactly a year on from the week Steve visited.
I just looked back at the report myself this evening to find weed free dry gravel paths, sunshine and blue sky... There has been another change, whilst I was wearing the same shorts as in the article..I now sport a NT polo shirt.................
I did give the Forum a mention.
..so if this is read;..Good to chat,...and I hope the Morina Longifolia travels well.
