Our paper reported this morning that many universities will accept foreign students with lower A level grades than British ones because of their increased fee income.

Last week one of our teenage granddaughters, a very pretty and clever lass, in the lower sixth at the moment, was diagnosed in an MRI scan as having a serious defect on her spine, having suffered from constant backache the last few months. She was referred to a neurosurgeon but was not likely to have a consultation before October! Her parents, not the wealthiest, enquired about having a private consultation at about £150, and hey, presto, she will see the specialist next week.

Evening Monika,
About ten years ago my wife had chronic back pain and because of the long waiting list to see a consultant our G.P.suggested that to circumvent the system we pay £140 to see the consultant privately and jump the N.H.S.list.We also had to pay for copies of the x-rays of my wife's back problem.
All went well until he said that he couldn't see much from the x-rays and that an MRI scan was required and that he would arrange it for the following Thursday at a cost of £1000.No way could I afford that so he said that he would arrange it on the N.H.S. Nine months and several calls to his secretary my wife had the scan.
As you stated,Monika,money talks.

Monika hope all goes well for her, and wishing her well soon. The health service seems to do all in its power these days to avoid paying up.
I am currently challenging them to fund my mums nursing care - I did ten years caring during the social and nursing need but it became a 24x 7 requirement which no one person can cope with single handedly, now they should step up to the mark and sort the high level of nursing requirement. My parents paid their contributions all their life, my father never needed it, he died before retirement, if gov had invested the payments there would be plenty to pay for it. Their incompetance never fails to amaze me ! Similarly folk with cars pay tax on fuel licence etc and yet our roads are full of deep potholes, damaging motorists suspension and tyres, causing further expense; I laugh when I see road maintenance on their vans, always too little too late - what maintenance ? :!:
Sit down before a fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconcieved notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.
