thanks, Old H, for your usual words of wisdom! I was wondering about that, but couldn't bring myself to throw the little things away. Just got to find 19 friends/family/colleagues to convince that they really want to adopt a marrow plant. Now, who do I know who's got a birthday coming up..........?
Hi Zena
Why not see if any local schools want them for the kids. They could take part in the marrowthon that was advertised in GW for charity. Don't know if it's too late to enter that one. If so, then the kids could raise money for their school.
That way, the kids get to learn about growing, they can get sponsorship for the charity/school and it brings out the competative side of things. You know, which class is going to have the biggest marrow etc.
What do you think?

Just been up the plot tonight, weeded my strawberry patch, nearly finished filling the runner bean trench with lots of quality compost from my various bins. I also put some pea plants in the ground, in peat pots (Lincoln)
At about 8.30 the sun was setting and soft mist rolled over the neighbouring field and into the allotment field it was truly compotastic!! It is great now the nights are getting lighter, and when I came home the Gooners got themselves in the Champs league final, not a gooner fan but was pleased to see them do well What a Save!!

If I am not on the plot, I am not happy.........

Hadn't heard about the marrowton- I'll make some enquiries! Might have managed to get rid of some at work, otherwise I think I'll go for the Freecycle option. Liked your suggestion, too,Johnboy, is that the bitter voice of experience?
I've just been hooking out the finished daffs from my pots and baskets round the outside of house,I lost most of my geraniums to the cold this winter so I'm going to grow salad stuff in them instead this year.I've put some lettuce plants with an incredibly long Italian name in 2 of them already.
