Hello anyway.
I've been reading this forum for two weeks, got sorted with a few problems and now I have a few more.
At the age of 70 I'm embarrassed to be a fresher at allotment-gardening and whilst I've grown stuff, clearly it was more by luck than judgement that anything grew. And often it did.
I'll deal with the user-stuff later, right-now it's time to water my dried out beds because this must be the only place beneath the borders that it isn't raining.
I'm in West Wales.
Richard
Is this the place to say Hello ?

How are you supposed to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle if it completely removes a wine lover’s reason to live?

Sorry, I just deleted because it was massive. I need to find a smaller photo.
Try this link, better than a massive photo.

Thank-you.
I already settled in on the basis of my reading. Almost got to know some of you, don't be fooled by the lovely look of the plot.
The weather comes from the sea on three sides, my first batch of beans were levelled by the wind two weeks ago before the slugs had a chance. Anywhere there is shelter, slugs.
I sorted them in my cold frames, straw bedding with lots of salt on the bedding.
Thanks Arnie, I'll try not to do daft.

Welcome aboard Richard. I'm a relative newbie as well and these guys are a real friendly bunch
.
Oh and I'm fairly sure that for every 1 person who actually posts a 'daft' question there are probably 10 more who didn't have the courage to but needed to know the same thing (if that makes sense)
Love your 'plot' BTW and feel free to steal some of our rain (in the drought ridden North Lincs Wolds), as despite all rumours to the contrary we have plenty to go around

Hello
I registered for the forum today, after having bought the magazine at the weekend. Hope to learn a great deal about veg growing here!
Have had my 80' by 35' allotment since the beginning of May. The photos (taken on 9. 5. 2012) showed what it looked like then. Still ticking about the amount of non-gardening rubbish on site, waiting for a skip to arrive any day (I have been promised)!
No so bad now, in fact pretty much fully planted up. Waiting to see what comes up! Still a ways to go before I know what works when, where and how!

Ahhh, Ok, I'll loosen-up on daft then if I'm in good company. We had clear blue skies with a cool northerly for the last three days. Keeping my plants watered that aren't yet in the ground is getting a real chore if you consider I get six inches of green-grass growing in some of the plot and four inches in most of it.
Best help from this site for me so far has been the comparison tests between peat-compost and the new organic woody stuff. I was using new-Horizon neat, mixed and also just peat. I had a lot of failure with the organic peat-free but some plants loved it.
Nitrogen deficiency was my first thought on the basis of the amount of wood in the mix but your tester didn't mention it. I'm still agonising over peat and peat-free. Peat free has a lovely texture but I get a lot of failure.
Got some cow poo thats been festering in a big tub, just need to get the strength correct without killing to many plants. Lots of free cow poo here, barns full of the stuff.
Thanks everyone for the nice welcome.
Richard
