The idea of the Olympics is a good thing - but I don't think any of us like how our government with their hands in the pockets of global corporations is handling it!
Sit down before a fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconcieved notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.

I absolutely agree with KG Admin. The Olympics are causing this country a fortune and few will benefit from it longterm. I wish the darned event had gone to Paris. And I think what happened to the allotment holders was a disgrace.
We have the Olympic torch passing quite close to us. We will not be bothering to turn out. Even worse, we have some Olympic & Paralympic Events also taking place fairly close by. The amount of disruption being caused to home owners and small businesses is unbelievable.
It's going to be like living in a madhouse for the duration and we are NOT looking forward to it at all.

Just what all you Olympic fans that have been posting above wanted to know:
Freesat have announced they will carry all of the BBC’s 24 live HD Olympic channels throughout the London 2012 Olympics, offering the full range of live BBC Olympics coverage, bringing every Olympic sport from every Olympic venue.
In addition to the 24 temporary BBC HD Olympics channels listed in the Freesat TV Guide, Freesat viewers will also be able to access the live 'streams' via the BBC Red Button service.

Ye gods| Now I've heard it all!
Surface-to-air missiles may be based on housing estate to protect olympics.

Is a week of running, jumping and the rest really worth all this?

Yes I read about tenants in London being evicted from their flats so that landlords could rent them out short term during the Olympics at eye watering rents. This is sheer greed. One can only hope that when the Olympics are over are they're all put back on the rental market again there will be such a surfeit of them that they'll all be forced to reduce their rental prices. Serves them right if this happens although I suppose there's always such a shortage of accommodation in London that they will soon be snapped up.
The more I hear about the Olympics the more disillusioned I am becoming.

As well as the idea of mobile rocket launchers perched on yer roof, I chuckled at the 10-strong army group that will be camped beside it to protect it (ah, but who protects them?)
Other stories emerging include the increased anti-terror laws (the right to enter your house without a warrant, the banning of any political banners posted in your own house window) - the strict restrictions placed on local traders - crazily of all - the news that the olympic committee have had every logo of any fitting manufacturer taped over (such as hand dryer makes) to prevent 'dilution of the Olympic brand'
I'm not sure when drying my hands in a toilet I've really ever suddenly been inclined to go buy one, but at least now I won't be so tempted.....

Gosh is that taping over logos story really true? I thought it was an imaginary spoof thing as mentioned in the really funny Twenty Twelve comedy programme. If it is true, heaven help us all. With every passing day I keep wishing more fervently that the Olympics had gone to Paris. The famous playing fields of Waterloo revenge is being involked, albeit a little late.

According to "Ginoclock" on Twitter, who purports to be Mrs Elizabeth (II) Windsor, it is basically Susan Boyle with a megaphone.
Do not put off thanking people when they have helped you, as they may not be there to thank later.

I often wonder how on earth the Olympics host countries managed a hundered years ago when billions of pounds worth of investment, sponsorship or investment in the games was completely unheard of and the games were a competition to prove who was the fastest runner, best field athlete at that time and the athletes funded themselves
.
Certainly a far cry from the corporate concern they are now.
As with many aspects of modern living, something important and special has been lost along the years ,,,,,,
I'm glad we're too far away for the Olympics to impact on us directly.

My sister in law lives a few blocks from the stadium and has had notes put in the door asking her if she would rent out her property during the olympics. One weeks rent is paying 3 months mortgage so she is moving down here with Mum and looking forward to the improvements she is going to make to her house with the money made!
She doesn't want to be in London anyway with the extra checks, traffic and road direction changes not to mention the high risk of terrorism activity.
