Thank you for that. A mess of potage eh? Sounds a likely explanation. Apologies for the missed apostrophe on Jacob's.

Does anybody know?

....the origin of a "Jacobs Join" We had one at Christmas and I was asked where the phrase came from. If you don't know it's when everybody brings food. It might just be a northern thing.
Hope the great minds on the forum can come up with the answer.
Happy New Year.

I had to dig mine up in the polytunnel to make way for summer crops. Small but delicious harvest - had them tonight with peppery lemon salmon - yum!

Enjoyable as always. It's amazing how quickly you are catching up with your plants. Looking at your pictures of Malvern reminded me of visiting the lost gardens of Heligan. Mr B was very taken with the old garden tools whilst I could look at rows of veg all day - something for everybody in fact.

Johnboy - You star! That is wonderful advice which I will most certainly follow.
It's strange how the things you want don't do well. I have planted lilly of the valley and poached egg plant and both have died out on me.

Why Oh Why Did I Sew Tansy?

I sewed some tansy seeds - it was something to do with companion planting. I can't even remember what now - but it is a surviver and is springing up all over. Does anyone else have a regret about introducing a plant?

You have achieved so much in a short space of time. Look after yourself and don't spread yourself too far. It is a fact of life that diabetes &a...

As well as the usual blackberry and sloe harvest, I use Rowan berries to make jelly. Delicious with pate or with turkey and chicken, as an alternative to cranbery jelly.
