Hi i am growing perpetual spinach and have read the earlier postings. However, I have never used before - how big should the leaves be to harvest? am I supposed to pick the little 'finger sized' leaves or bigger ie. 'up to the elbow'. Also would you rip off at the bottom of the stem, or cut with sci...

Early Nantes/ baby carrots

I had two of my daughters friends round to play yesterday and as they were getting a little rowdy I got them to do some gardening with me. I ran out of jobs for them and I thought it would be nice to send them home with something to grow. I gave them a flower pot each about 5in tall and looked for s...

by the way I have taken on board the advice about heat - I think it wont have mattered too much in this case - the only heat would have been from the sun as my house is freezing!

Some of the seedlings are lying horizontal across the tray now - (I really do not think those ones are happy a...

floppy leek seedlings

I did a search on floppy leek seedlings and came up with this thread! I was wondering if they turned out OK in the end as mine are about 3in and really skinny - I was wondering if they were upside down and this was the root! So do think it would be a good idea to pot on? I keep mine just on my windo...

I did not see the programme but I wish BBC wouldnt put the advert on at children's time! it shows a platter of dead chicken which proceeds to growing feathers, a head and standing up. I do realise children need to know where their food comes from but the ad has given my 4 yr old nightmares. and we h...

(for next year)? sorry if im being very silly, I had success last ...

I think the little tiny pumpkin and un-opened bud is giving up. It has turned a sick colour and the bud is going brown on top. I can see a few more teeny weeny ball shapes on the ends of some tendrils but these will end up on my lawn if I let it grow that far! Im wondering if I should have tended to...

Out of my 2 plants have had lots of male flowers but just one tiny immature fruit has been there for over a week and the flower just wont open up ! Should I open the flower to pollinate it before it dies off? Or would this harm the plant. I dont want to lose this female bit as this is my only one th...
