Doubt if other metal would work, the reason copper does work is that when the slug crawls on to it it then creates a circuit and produces an electric charge.

Hi there
The only difference is that Bocking 14 was developed as a plant that will not spread like the Russian variety and it was named after where it was developed by one of the early organic society people (i think).

If you have enough you can just use the leaves as a mulch. Where my allotment is we have some spare/unused allotments that have alot of comfrey growing on them. Here in wet Doncaster at least the slugs appaear to be having a good time. Have been down to the allotment to-night spotted some peas worth picking, however, as i picked them i found that the peas were covered in slugs - ranging from 2-3mm through to one about 5cm laying around on the ground! needle...
