Thanks for that Colin, I've read up on them and will be giving them a try next year.

I grew one plant this year of a variety called Large Red Cherry from Plants of Distinction, and that one has grown and fruited just like GD should have done! It's definitely my plant of choice for next year for a small to medium red tomato, nothing unusual, just nice red round tomatoes, not too larg...

They look fantastic, how do they taste?
I think you've sorted out my bean experiment for next year!

Here in Kent the local paper reported a plague of wasp nests around the county. We've got one in the roof eaves, just four feet from our front door, and we've obviously got a gap somewhere through to our airing cupboard, because they keep appearing out of there. We leave the bedroom windows just aja...

Further update. Picking literally hundreds of cherry size toms from the two plants, not recovered to normal size as I said earlier. We've eaten a few but we've got so many other normal size toms that the GD's are getting frozen in bags for cooking. I shan't be so eager to get them started early next...

We've had a couple of meals from them now, and when you get them young, say about a foot long, then they are fine. Not the same as French Beans but fine in their own way. I shan't grow them again, because they are pretty slow to develop, difficult to grow on, and no better than French Beans when you...

Tomatoes, peppers, yard long beans, melons, calabrese all OK, and Spring Onions have grown almost as big as leeks, never grown spring onions like them. I'm talking polytunnel, and I'm talking seep hose watering, on for a day or two every few days.
But we always seem to do well in the polytunnel.

We've had one crop from our Brown Turkey, which is in a biggish pot, and there's another coming, about half size fruits at present, but I think it's too late to ripen them. I'll keep my fingers crossed though. Figs are funny plants, they set the fruit this year which will ripen next year, but usuall...

Sorry to take so long to come back. I probably left them on the plant too long to see how long they would grow to, but we've had our first meal and, well, they are eatable, not bad, but when Wendy comes back from her short holiday we'll try some younger ones. It only takes 3 beans to make a good siz...

I'm sure that you'll all be pleased to know that I've cheered up somewhat since posting the above. I actually made a start today on building my second polytunnel, cutting the first lot of uprights for the frame and dousing the bottoms in wood preserver, so I must be feeling better!

Primrose, my intention is to grow them to a yard if I can before trying them so I won't be able to tell you about the taste for a while yet. But I will! Colin, sounds like they might be the same, but mine are very thin yet. Have you looked at the photo? If they are the same then obviously they are e...

Alan.
I was already trying the seed potatoes in the fridge as you suggested and we had to throw them all out yesterday!
Point taken.
JB hasn't replied to my enquiry about a clamp. I take his silence to mean it wouldn't work then.

I don't want to argue with scientists, but it hardly seems credible, does it.
Five times as much! I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe.

Primrose, I don't know if you looked at the photo of the flowers on my beans in my blog or not, but do have a look at vg 16. Beans ahoy!
Make a comment on there or here to let me know.
