Thanks everyone... Since we've got such a big area we're going to hire in a mini-tractor thing with a rotavator-type machine (our little lawn tractor isn't strong enought to pull one). I'm now going to research different kinds of green manure... need something I can plant most stuff into afterwards....

I am seeing this idea as the opposite to what I will have to do with my proposed green manuring. As I use a rotovator to cultivate the soil, digging in green manure is not possible therefore I shall cut the tops off and take them to the compost bin. Hi Allan Excuse the hijacking of the thread... We...

So, just keep the soil moist and the greenhouse well ventilated and my fingers crossed?

Have no need to prune it, as it apparantly it only fruited slightly, and all these have now gone

Thanks :D

Hmmm, Mr OWG ate a chilli con carne AND rice at a friends house, yet scorned the spinach I did for tea...

I think he might change when I bring in stuff we've grown...

He tasted a tomato earlier in the season and declared it "alright, actually"

Help with a grape vine

We've "rescued" a grapevine from Freecycle (Black Hamburgh) not more than 4 years old. We dug it up (huge root ball - although we have a feeling we still didn't get all of it) and planted it in a large pot filled with compost and well rotted manure and watered it in (strung it on the wires...

My best friend has 3 horses, and a growing muck heap... They offered it to people near them (hence the transportation thing) and only one person took it up... they brough round about 5 plastic dustbins and once they were full, took them away! We get rubble sacks full of horse poo from them (the hors...

Our problem is, I desperately want to grow as much lovely fresh veg as possible, however, Mr OWG doesn't like veg... He eats: potatoes, leeks, carrots, onions, lettuce and yellow peppers I want to grow all sorts of stuff, so am going to plan my beds round our "main crop" (see above) and fi...

Thin the grapes at the right time (instead of being greedy)

Prune the fruit trees properly (instead of being lazy)

Get Mr OWG to eat a new vegetable that we have grown ourselves :)

Try and only plant what we like, rather than loads of stuff we don't like and can't get rid of

Our vine is "trained" along the greenhouse in 2 directions (although they are very triffid like, I'm finding) Busy??? I've been making jams and chutneys every weekend, ready for cheap & cheerful pressies in the festive season! We're in north west lancashire, on the coast between Knott ...

We only moved in the house in July, and the couple who lived there previously had planted tomatoes for us, and dealt with an existing grapevine... The plums and apples are from the orchard at the bottom of the garden... I had a very quick introduction into jam making and freezing fruit! I'm now just...

Newbie here!

Hi everyone Just a quick post to introduce myself... I'm a first time grower (just coming to the end of our first half-season in our new house) We grow in our garden and greenhouse, and this year have had bumper crops of Gardener's Delight tomatoes, grapes, plums and apples. In the autumn we hope to...
