I have bought five varities of seed potato, got them in egg trays ,chitting, and they are all rotting with blight, smell mush .Having gardened veg for twenty years , never known this to happen. help anyone,or is anyone having same problem.regards Allan8
Sorry if I've mislead you Allan8, as you've already said your potatoes have collapsed because of blight.
It's just that if they get wet and cold whilst chitting (like mine did the year I dedided to chit them in an unheated tunnel) they get frosted and go soggy and smelly.
I don't know why they would get blight at this time of the year.

Hi Tigger,
Blight lives the winter in a host potato but in this instance I agree that when it is a multiple rotting and knowing the heavy frosts we have been having of late that this is the more likely culprit.
