I tried a heritage variety of yellow sugarsnap pea, they are now over 3ft tall, growing strongly, and just coming into flower - a purply red flower, so for anyone combining flowers and veg it's an attractive one to grow, I will keep you posted what the peas are like later, I love them raw and in salads.

Is that the one from the Real seed catalogue NB ? I tried it the year before last; nice enough, but I prefer Carouby de Mausanne. I suppose I quite like the bright green pods for the colour on the plate.

I sowed the spare seed in a pot in late winter in the greenhouse, the pea shoots were very nice in salad.

Hi Tony, yes, I find them generous with seeds and descriptions, advice is usually good, and I can save the seeds. Were the Carouby de Mausanne from them too? I haven't tried those. I am thinking perhaps I should try them for two or three years as it takes time for seed to adapt to local conditions.

The Carouby de Mausanne were from Suffolk herbs, I think, though others do them. A tall pea again, also pink/purple flowered. A strong flavour, could be an issue of personal taste, but I liked them.

I am thinking peas definitely grow better and taste better if they get plenty of sunshine and we get plenty of that here in the south east, they probably don't develop that sweetness in more rainy areas, as I like mine in salads or very lightly steamed, what they boil like is not a problem.

We are trying Carouby de Maussane which I believe we bought from Kings. With all the dry weather though they are only growing very slowly so we'll have to try them again next year.

I saw a photo of a pea with salmon pink flowers - anyone seen this anywhere and know what it is called?

Could it be this one Gallotments, a rarity indeed.

I have grown Carouby de Mausanne (from D T Brown) for the last two years, NB, and they are not just pretty but also very productive and very tall! Certainly worth growing if you like mangetout peas. We are harvesting them now which is quite early for us.

Hi Monika, our early overwintered peas have finnished and the douce de provence is nearly finnished, this is the third crop of peas just coming into flower, and yes next year I definitely intend giving those a try, despite the drought thanks to the mulch they have all done well, we were promised rain today but yet again it hasn't materialised !

The flowers were a paler salmon pink with no white at all.

Quite a few sweet peas that colour, but not aware of any other peas that colour, if I see another salmon flowered pea I will let you know.
