Grafted Tomatoes

I visited my old Agricultural School yesterday; (things have changed no more smocks, chalk, slate or quills) and noticed that they were grafting tomatoes, a new one on me. Apparently it produces greater cropping over a longer period with more resistance to pests and diseases. Have other forum members tried this method?

If seed for rootstock is only available in commercial quantities, perhaps we could try it as a group thingy and share ideas and learn together.
