What potatoes should i be looking at planting now for a late crop ,if not allready to late.Thanks Bill

Are you growing in a tub/sack, or potato bag? or in the ground Bill ?

Straight into the ground ,now lifted all my earlys ,and wondering if i could late crop the same bit of ground .Thanks Bill

I've never done this, but if I did I would use one of the first earlies and then worry about blight

Just a thought; where will you get your seed potatoes from?

If you can get some, give it a try. An experiment is always worthwhile.

Would they be prone to blight because i am growing in the same plot?.
Probly buy on line .Not certain it will happen yet that is my reason for asking.

Hi Bill, possible problems ...
Potatoes grow better in cooler weather, in hot dry summer weather returns they will slow down
If we get early frosts it will affect foliage
blight is more prevalent in late summer.
growth slows as light levels drop towards winter
look at varieties and length of time to cropping then you can calculate if its worth a try in your area, we might get an indian summer.
some people grow new potatoes in potato grow bags undercover for christmas

Here, when the Early Potatoes are lifted we then plant our Leeks and as the spuds come up so the Leeks go in about two plants behind the lifting.

Thanks John will look into that ,do like leeks may have to get the book out .Can they be bought ready for planting

Bill if you google vegetable plants on line you will have some suppliers to choose from, there are early and late leeks just like potatoes.

I usually grow mine from seed so can't reccomend any particular supplier, but this link has a wide selection. and they do a mixed collection that will stagger the harvest right through till spring

Am i right in thinking that any first earlies lifted now will not sprout till next year or will they sprout if left in a cool light place?

I have had success with first earlies which I missed when harvesting. They than sprout foliage and I get Christmas new potatoes. Usually I plant leeks as I harvest the maincrop, but in 2009 they went in after the earlies and shared the bed with the "keepers".

Bill my thoughts were they must have lots of customers returning to support so much choice. It would be a lot of stock to hold if it wasn't selling and they would soon go bankrupt!
