Vulcan bomber?

When we were on the allotment this evening, about 7.15pm, a huge aeroplane came over which, I am sure, was a Vulcan bomber, having seen them in their flying days. My OH thinks that they are all grounded now. Could it have been one? It had all camouflage markings and flew over the Skipton area from SE to NW, quite low. An air show somewhere?
I happened to have the camera ready and took photos but I still have not fathomed out how to post them.

Thanks, Alan, exactly the same one! Looking at your link, I realised it was obviously on its way to Douglas, Isle of Man, for an evening flypast. A rather impressive sight and quite eerie.

Funnily enough we had a strange flying object over our house too a Chinook helicopter - must have been an air show nearby or something I suppose.

I haven't yet seen the Vulcan since it took to the air once more....but a few years back, on its second? test flight, it passed directly over my work location....except I had just gone home.!! My then colleague took a mobile phone call just as I was leaving and so was still there and got to see it..
Although as I drove home I spotted the dark curving exhaust trails in the left distance as it headed for RAF Coningsby that afternoon.
I would love to see it...and just to be in the right place at the right time to spot it would be magic.
Did spot one of our local Spitfires once again yesterday evening..
....and this mornings task has been netting Radio Peas at work against aerial attack...Pigeons..
Clive.

Afternoon Clive, the pidgeons are trying to do a lot of damage over the allotments but, thank goodness they haven't started on the tall Peas.
They are up to about five feet, and just showing the first white of the flowers.
I'm very pleased.
Now back to the Vulcan Bomber.

In the 70s I was directly overflown by one when walking near Pately Bridge in Yorkshire.
My godmother and I were walking down the valley floor and the Vulcan, with attendant Phantom, was well below the valley sides, VERY NOISY.
Eileen was very used to them as both the RAF & the USAAF practised low level strikes up & down the valleys, I believe they also used the Gouthwaite Reservoir in Wath just up the valley as a target.
This one was heading in the other direction. I used to be given the attic room.with a skylight and can remember looking down at a passing Phantom.

Spotted one over us in August 2008 but was a bit slow getting the camera.

Just back from long weekend on Holy Loch and climbed a hill above Strone where you get an amazing panoramic view of a bend on the Firth of Clyde where you can see to Glasgow and South to Arran and Ailsa Craig but on the plane theme spotted a flying boat. I think it is the one that does trips from Loch Lomond.

These big aircraft remind me of the time a few years ago when I was driving past Heathrow Airport on the M25 with my cat curled up on the back seat of the car. Concorde was taking off and flew immediately over the roof of my car. The noise was unbelievable. I knew what was causing the noise. The poor cat didn't and was so terrified that he shat all over the back seat. I was in a steady flow of traffic and it was ages before I could pull over and clean up !!
