Mould on potting compost

I have noticed that whenever I plant seeds and leave the pot on the windowsill to germinate, there comes a white fuzzy mold on the compost. I am using multi pupose compost. It is getting quite dense around my lemon basil. Should I leave it or try to remove it? Is this common or am I doing something wrong?

Hy Ballydoolagh
White and fuzzy sounds unusual to me. What brand of compost are you using?

The 3 for £10 kind!!
Not sure, will have to check. I got bought one of those all in one kits for growing aubergines, pot soil seeds all in one. It did the same thing and would have been different soil. I wonder is it not enough sun or water or maybe too much water. Aubergine plants were not affected but seems worse with my 2 pots of basil.
Maybe I'll change windowsills.

Or could it be red spider mite webbing?

Could it be something like Root Mealy Bug?
These caused a white mass around the base of my Auricula and will spread if you are not careful.
Check for the bugs by turning the pots out and looking for very small white crawly things
