Afternoon everyone,
I have a strange question for you here. I know that you are not allowed to grow brocolli and the like in the same ground, it neding to be rotated every three years. But can you plant an early variety and when that is finished plant a later one in the same ground, and then use it for kale??

Evening Fair Weather 33, in an ideal world probably not, but i think we all break the gardening rules now and again.
I often follow crops with the same family, but never ever if they have had any sign of disease, i also re-feed the soil after each crop has been removed, whether this is with homemade compost, manure or fertilizer.

I don't have a vegetable patch big enough to allow proper rotation so just try and pick a slightly different spot every year for these, even if it's a couple of yards away from the previous location where they were grown. Like OH, I try to keep the soil well fertilised in the hope that this will keep disease at a minimum and on the whole it has worked very well.

Afternoon Primrose
It is my own falt I got in to this position in the first place. I just love brocolli and it was my first try since I was about 12 am now 34.
Unfortunatly so many grew and so uniformally I could just not bring myself to throw any away (nobody close by growes veg). So just filled gaps with spare ones. This meaning that most of my raised beds contained some at one end or the other. Unfortunatly did not think of rotating untill I had started to harvest them (double drat, must remember to engage brain at some point

).
So I could Plant at the other end of one of the beds as you suggested.
Thank you V much both of you. As always this forum has the answer

Do you have any other locations in your garden when you could grow some of your surplus plants, i.e. mixed in amongst flowers in another border, or even in your front garden?
When I ran out of space in the back garden for what I wanted to grow, I stripped out the rather diseased standard roses from two of our front garden borders and planted blackcurrants, redcurrants, gooseberry bushes and strawberries.

Afternoon Primrose
Am green with envy. My mum used to have a fruit cage full of black/red currants, gooseberries and a blackberry. Unfortunatly she could no longer look after it, and at the time I was working unusual hours so the whole thing turned into a jungle. But hopefully this year I will be able to sort it. I have already taken out the old plants. Unfortunatly this seems to have encouraged the Grass and nettles. (Darn!!!!)
I am also thinking about putting in a new bed so could use that for Brocolli.
Thanks
