I rather like gulls myself. For a while I had a gull (can't remember type now) with one wing which had been brought to us. S/He was lovely and used to wander around the house after me. I called him Nelson for obvious reasons.
The main reason for the proliferation of gulls is the same as for the proliferation of rats.......... messy humans! They'll be complaining about corvids next 'cause they are intelligent enough to take advantage of our slovenly ways also.
