Planting tomatillo plants near tomatoes

Can anybody confirm to me please whether tomatillo plants belong to the same family as tomatoes? (I know tomatoes and potatoes are in the same family).

I'm planning my veggie planting scheme for this year and as I have limited rotation facilities was thinking of planting some tomatillo plants in the front of my tomato border.

Is this a reasonable thing to do? (I'm thinking of blight cross-infection).

Tomato : Lycopersicum Esculentum, family Solanaceae
Potato : Solanum Tuberosum, family Solanaceae
Tomatillo : Physalis Ixocarpa, family Solanaceae
Aubergine : Solanum Melongena, family Solanaceae
Pepper : Capsicum Annum, Frutescens, Chinense, family Solanaceae

I have grown Tomatillos near Tomatoes that got blight and they weren't affected. I have never heard of Aubergines or Peppers being affected so I guess Tomatillos aren't in a susceptible branch of the family either.

So it ain't that simple as being related!

They are tomato family Primrose, but though I plant them separately, i have never seen blight on my tomatillos, when the toms got blight they didn't, they do branch out quite a bit so allow some space.

Geoff & NB - thanks for your advice. I'm hoping to sow the seeds you kindly sent me much earlier this year so I can get a reasonable crop.

Hi Primrose, just busy with Mum's care hosp visits etc, more to come too.
doing my best to crack on with the garden but only get time in the garden when someone else keeps an eye on mother.
