The shallots I bought this year (Topper) look a decent size. However, on closer inspection many of them are clusters of quite small ones (each about 1 cm diameter). Should I split them or plant them as clusters?

Thank you.

I've grown Topper for years and never split them, just plant them as they are. You'll get about 7 shallots from each one. They also keep very well, much better than onions, so you can save some to plant again next year and never have to buy shallots again.

I also grow some of the longer French type that someone gave me for a different flavour. They might be Jermor.
