I don't know and it hasn't happened to me. I assume you're adding them when you've finished your text?

Compo, is the text highlighted when you are going to the emoticons, cos that would be selected and you would then be replacing it with the smiley. Just click the mouse at the point you want to add the smiley.

As another helpful idea.

Before making changes to something you have typed do <Ctrl><A> that selects it all then do <Ctrl><C> which copies it all.

Alternatively do all the typing in Notepad or Word, then copy and paste it into the web page.

Well I do sometimes agree with your statement Peter, but I am fairly PC literate and have good KB Skills, but am nroe sure how much of my laptop's senstive mouse pad is to blame. Btu the problem happened several times before I posted the problem.

It was a jocular question old chap.

Is it a touchpad mouse on the laptop?

They seem sometimes to be affected by the heat of your hand if youn tend to leave it resting on the surrounding area. Certainly my work laptop the cursor starts to wander off in a straight line all be itself and the only cure is to take my paw off & let it cool down.
