Hi all

Has anyone tried growing horseradish? If so, where did you get it from?

I have heard that it can get out of hand and spread wildly, but presumably it could be planted in large pot, as you would do with mint?

cheers

We tried to grow it, and were stupid enough to plant it in the garden. It is worse than bindweed, when it comes to invasiveness. It took us years to get rid of it. If you are going to grow it, grow it in a very large pot, otherwise, and perferably, buy it in jars from the supermarkets!!

Hi Spud and Valmarg,
There is what is called 'Johnboys method' of control and it need not be invasive at all.
It is too late tonight for me to do it but by the weekend I will post it up on Forum.

I got my horseradish from Wilkinsons last year which I've grown in a large plastic pot, (about 24 inches tall & the same across the top) as I had read that it was invasive. I just filled the pot with garden compost and put the horseradish in and kept in watered in a corner of the garden....I just pull a bit up when I need it...beware though it is hotter than the shop bought stuff.

I have a volunteer hr plant in the edge of the path besdies one of my allotments and it does not spread anywhere. Would this be due to cultivating or wild strain?

Hi all

Was in Wilkinsons today and they have horseradish there. I think it was about £2.50 or £3.00

Hello Jonhboy, waiting with eager anticipation to see what 'Johnboys method' is. I think horseradish is one of the few things that i have not grown. I want to start making my own horseradish sauce, any tips for this would also be appreciatd.

Kind regards an intrigued Old Herbaceous.

Hi Lizzie,
I was up at just after 6.00am and had the kettle boiled when Bert the Post arrived and 'cos we thought it might get cold we had a hair of the dog tea with Amber Nectar!!
I have had egg and bacon with a few Chestnut Mushrooms so not qite a full English. I never get a hangover but can be rather silent for a while! Which you will realize is unusual!!

Hi Johnboy

I went to a local farmers market today and found some horseradish plants for sale.

Details of your method of containment would be much appreciated before I plant my horseradish.

Thanks

Spud
