Dear Grockie, lucky indeed, it's been quite a few years now since i've seen one, a gorgeous bird indeed.

Lucky you, Grockie, I haven't seen one for quite a few years though other people keep spotting them in the lively beck (that's a stream to southeners!) just below our house. I did watch a pair of dippers in there, though, the other day - not as good as a kingfisher. Our best kingfisher watching spot is along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

We have seen them on the pond at work...and even had a nest in the bank a few years ago. We had cleared back some Portugal Laurel and had opened up a vertical earth bank which they saw as ideal.
The next year we often heard them if not saw them...but not seen for year or so now..despite having good stocks of their favourite lunch...but earth bank now obscured once more....
...below taken with my not so zoom-able camera.....just fledged...3 on the grid..and one left of shot in the Laurel.
An amazing sight.....
Clive.
