Being old and living in the sticks with a long no claims Liverpool Victoria charged me £191 this year for a 1.9 diesel Octavia. If you delve into the dishonest world of price comparison sites watch that your "bargain" isn't at the expense of reduced cover. They really annoy me when you ask for say £50 excess then look into the details behind a good quote and find it is £200.
I guess your problem is your post code but managing to keep your wheels so you can drive is a bonus in Liverpool (sorry, I'm a Mancunian).

Hi Kevin
If you are over 50, check out Saga. I was horrified to receive a quote from them this year, but had a look once I got over the shock and it's over 50% cheaper than my previous insurance.
I know I have an old car (26 year old Mazda 323) but in 2009 the cheapest quote was around £240, presumably in case I damaged someone/thing else rather than anything to do with the price of my car. This year it is £105, payable in 0% interest monthly installments. Last year would have been more if I paid in installments, so I paid as a lump sum
There are distinct advantages to getting old

Mmmmmmmmmmmm theres old and old Chantal!
I insure through the NFU a mutual company and my insurance for a Seat Ibiza 1900 TDI is £209.00. and this includes a breakdown service.
I am proud to say my car manages to do 60 miles to the gallon and some times a little more.
All my insurances are with the NFU. House, Contents, Machinery and Out Buildings etc and I have found them to be thoroughly reliable.
JB.

ive just renewed my 89 discovery with rac... £165... thats with 9 years ncd and the mrs as a named driver.... they were trying to drop the cover for a borrowed car but put it back on for an extra 59 p... dont make sense to me either... i checked on the meerkats and there were others about a tenner cheaper, not enough of a saving to bother comparing the small print.
