Digging without due care and attention ....

...sadly Your Honour, I must plead guilty as charged.

I was trying to dig round the edges of each row of spuds, but somehow and despite trying to be really careful, I ended up knicking rather too many with the fork. Needless to say I was given a right ticking off when I bought them home

If there's any silver lining to this cloud, it's that this maincrop (Cara) have really made up for our disappointing crop of salads (Charlottes & Vales) back in the summer. They are also on the big side with several over 6" wide, so having to shave an inch or so of damage off still leaves quite a bit to eat.

Looks like it'll be spuds with every meal for the next week, just to use up the "wounded" ones . I may need some suggestions for recipes....

Hi Colin, a few ideas for your wounded tatties.
If you have plenty of greens c-ook extra potatoes and greens and make bubble and squeek next day or you could form into patties and freeze some.

Thanks NB, that's an excellent idea!

I've got some mature sprouting broccoli plants that still have lots of leaf. I might use some of the greens from these for Bubble & Squeak patties.

Ah - if we're talking Bubble & Squeak or Colcannon, it must be autumn time again if all the 'comfort foods' are reappearing on the menu! Thanks for that reminder NB. I've got a lot of Cavalo Nero to start using (as soon as the last of the beans and courgettes have disappeared), and Bubble & Squeak with some tasty fried onions mixed in sounds ideal for a nice tasty supper.
Corn Beef hash is another one for using up surplus potatoes.
