Browny cauliflowers

My not very large caulis (5" or so) have grown with a brown "speckle" all over them, making them look most unappetising. They've grown like this, not suddenly changed from white. There doesn't seem to be any sign of insect infestation, but the brown spots extend like little scabs down the stems of the curds. Any information, please - and thanks.

I wonder if it could be early slug damage that has grown with the curd.

Thanks OH. My wife has just asked me to enquire about a white "mildew" affecting the leaves of her roses. It rubs off with the fingers, but she has never had it before. Ta.

Sounds like powdery mildew -
Sphaerotheca pannosa var. rosae

Hello John
Have your caulies just developed brown bits lately or were they always there. I was wondering if the heads have simply grown old. The heads on cauliflowers do not stay in top condition for long and soon deteriorate.
