Am not a pea growing expert so I wonder if somebody can answer my query.

My first row of peas this Spring was very lush, both in terms of foliage and number of pea pods. But I've noticed that on the second row I've sown which is just developing the first pods and on a third successional row the leaves seem to be paler and generally sparser. I'm growing these two rows on the site when I pulled up my onions, and I did dig in some chicken manure pellets before sowing.

Is this a sign that the soil might be undernourished, or do peas not grow and perform so well in very hot weather which we've had recently, as opposed to the much cooler temperatures when I sowed my first row?

My second lot of peas are just the same, Primrose. I assume it's the dry and hot weather we had. Our first lot of peas (Hurst Greenshaft and Cavalier) are finished but I particularly grew one variety called Showwinner and sowed it much later because our local Show isn't until the beginning of September. I don't think our crop will be a show winner, though, because, like yours, they look very thin and sparse!
