i have quite a few cherry tomato, tumbling tomato and sweet pepper plants, i'm just wondering what would be a sensible quantity of each to keep 2 adults with healthy appetites! i have an allotment but no greenhouse so i am growing them on my window sills. thanks

Hi Meow

Mmm? for the two of us plus a few neighbours occasionally for the tomatoes, I grow 36 tomato plants and about 10 peppers. But they are in the polytunnel.

I'm growing about 30 tomato plants this year of mixed varieties for two of us. This aims to include a fair amount for cooking down for the freezer to make tomato purree/passata for soups, pasta sauces, caseroles, etc. (as well as a few bags handed to next door neighbour)

I'm growing 5 pepper plants (the thin-skinned long Italian variety) which are mostly sliced up and dry frozen for the freezer. These will keep us going for most of the year for the small amounts we use in pasta sauces, Chinese stir fries, chile con carne, etc.

Forgot to add that all mine are grown outdoors. The tomatoes are in a sunny border. The peppers are in ten inch pots on the patio which gets sun half the day.
