I bought a packet of Suttons Sugarbon peas. If you look at their online shop the illustration shows what I thought I was getting, A fat and juicy sugar snap pea. On the back of my packet it confirms this "short,round, tasty pods"
What I am now harvesting is a bog standard flat mange tout. I queried this with Suttons (with photo) and was assured that what I had was the genuine article. The description that goes with the online shop also states "flat" pods. You can only go on the packet description if you are buying in a shop as I was. Has anyone had a similar experience? I shall steer clear of Suttons from now on.

It should do what it said on the information at point of sale or (I believe) they have contravened the trade descriptions act.

This picture from Sutton's website shows some flat pods. Are you sure you are not picking too soon. How does this picture compare with the picture on the packet?

That is exactly the picture on the packet. I don't think that I am picking too soon.They are already developing strings.
I will attach a picture of what I have grown.

I agree; those are definitely not the ones shown on the website/packet.
Lesson: don't trust the big seed merchants

I have had a similar thing with my packet of DT Brown 'Sugar Snap' peas. I was expecting fat sugar snaps, but instead I have a combination of mainly flat mange tout and some fatter sugar snaps. It is not a problem for us as we enjoy both, but rather confusing when the plants are side by side. The sugar snaps grow fat quickly from tiny whereas the mange tout stay flat all the time.

Where possible I prefer to buy heritage seeds and save my own seed, that way I know what I am getting, and each year it adapts better to local our conditions. I like Chase Organics and the Real Seed Company, they produce their own and groW and test for attributes themselves.

Just to correct a possibly misleading impression, if I may: this is true to a fair extent of Real Seeds, not at all, so far as I'm aware, of The Organic Gardening Catalogue (Chase Organics).

Not exactly the same but last year, I had seven strange plants amongst my Parsnips, which turned out to be chard...the white stemmed variety. As we have never grown chard, they can only have come from the packet of Parsnip seeds.
