laminated book all about weeds?

Does anyone know of a small pocket sized book of garden weed identification? Laminated if possible as it always rains where she lives!

Daughter in W. Scotland - trying to make a garden....me in Dorset! She doesn't know a weed from a welly at the moment and has asked me if there is such a thing as a rain-proof book of weeds?

I've looked in all the usual places and websites but no luck so far.

Just need something she can carry around in her pocket when in the garden - to prevent her from pulling up hollyhocks and cultivating dandelions :(

Any help would be much appreciated for ever!

Hello Diane. I haven't come across a book solely about weeds but you might find something suitable if you look at the "Wild Flower" books, rather than one specifically for weeds. The Collins "Little Gem" books are pocket sized.

Alternatively, there is a pocket version in the Dr. D,G. Hessayon "Expert" series, called "The Pocket Garden Troubles Expert", which has a good chapter about weeds ....but it isn't laminated.(ISBN 0-903-50554-1)
I think it retails at under £5 but I got mine in one of those cheap bookshops for £2.50.
I hope this is of some help.
I wish your daughter many happy hours of gardening...she will learn by her mistakes like the rest of us!! :D
Cheers!

I do far less weeding since I learned to manage weeds. One years seeding = seven years weeding ! Weeds can also be useful, as long as they are not seeding I dry them on the paths and add them to the mulch. mulch feeds soil, keeps the soil moist and weeds lift out easier. Nettle makes an excellent liquid feed, many weeds are good compost activators.

You eally need a book with photos of weed seedlings so she can whip the weeds out early.

This site has some photos if you browse on flower colour - what about printing out the common ones and laminating them to make her a little book with the weeds she is likely to come across.
