A long time since I've heard that sung - except by my wife every year, returning nostalgically to her childhood in Northumberland.

Why Oak Apple day? Is it the time of year when oak apples begin to form? And I'm sure someone can remind me what insect it is wot does it.

I wonder if they really do decorate the gates of the Guildhall in Worcester with garlands of oak leaves, I will go and have a look later.

What a terrible reason for a Public Holiday - the only good idea Parliament has ever had and they couldn't even make that work.
