Semi-determinate tomatoes

I have some tomato plants described as "semi-determinate", Will they need supporting? Do I pinch out the side shoots? Or do I just let them grow like a bush tomato?

What variety are they?
If, as I suspect, they are like Italian plum tomatoes, they will defintely need support and if I were you I would take out a good proportion of the sideshoots, allowing a few strong ones to grow on and crop. But, they will need support.
