Are there only 2 types of Peppers: 'Sweet' & 'Hot'?

A friend of mine gave me 4 little pepper seedlings yesterday. She said they were "Hot Peppers". I said "do you mean Chilli peppers?" and she said "no. Hot peppers".

When I looked at the picture on the seed packet they looked just like chilli peppers to me, but, hey, I'm quite new to this game...

So, my question to you is this: How many types of peppers are there? Is it just Sweet Peppers (capsicum), & Hot Peppers (chilli)? In which case my friends HOT peppers would indeed be CHILLI peppers.

Would just really like to know what I am growing, and then how to use it in the kitchen!

Thank you :D

Sounds fairly likely they're chilli peppers.

It's quite usual for West Indians to refer their chilli's as Hot Peppers (eg. Scotch Bonnet peppers). Believe me, they usually are
